More than 1,800 new COVID cases in B.C. over the weekend; 707 in Interior Health

While the number of new COVID-19 cases recorded in B.C. didn’t hit the daily peak of 867 last Friday, there were still 1,852 new cases recorded. Of those the biggest share was in the Interior Health region with 707.

The rest came from the Fraser Health region with 531 new cases along with 295 in Vancouver Coastal, 178 on Vancouver Island and 142 in the Northern Health region, according to a Ministry of Health news release issued today, Aug. 30.

There were 769 new cases in B.C. from Friday to Saturday, 581 from Saturday to Sunday and 503 in the last 24 hours.

Seven more deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, including three in the Interior Health region, bringing the provincial total to 1,814.

Over the weekend, there were four new outbreaks declared in health care facilities in B.C., including Rose Woods Village in Trail.

Of the 5,918 active cases in B.C., 2,424 are in the Interior Health region.

Vaccinations for those over the age of 12 have reached 84.2 per cent with 76.4 per cent of B.C. residents now being fully vaccinated.
