More Kelowna COVID-19 school exposures announced

In back to back emails, Central Okanagan Public Schools announced two more potential COVID-19 exposures at Kelowna schools.

Interior Health confirmed potential COVID-19 exposures at E´cole KLO Middle School and Kelowna Secondary School.

In both cases, they say a member of the community tested positive for COVID-19. An exposure doesn't mean that there's necessarily been transmission.

"They are self-isolating at home with support from local public health teams. Interior Health follows up with anyone potentially exposed to a confirmed case directly through contact tracing," reads the district release.

"The safety and well-being of students, families and staff remains our highest priority. Central Okanagan Public Schools will continue to implement the strict health and safety protocols and procedures that are in place so students and staff can continue to attend school as safely as possible."

The Central Okanagan is showing some of the highest numbers of COVID-19 in the Interior Health region. It has recorded 409 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in January. That's 53 per cent of the 768 cases recorded in the entire Interior Health region so far this year.

In turn, these areas have the most school exposures.

Kelowna Immaculata Regional High School is the latest on a growing list of Central Okanagan schools with a  COVID-19 exposure.

Other Central Okanagan Public Schools exposures include École Élémentaire Casorso Elementary School, North Glenmore Elementary, Glenrosa, Ecole KLO, Ecole Dr. Knox and Constable Neil Bruce middle schools along with Kelowna and Okanagan Mission secondary schools.

No longer on the list is South Kelowna, Springvalley and Rose Valley elementary schools along with Ecole Rose Valley Middle School.

Immaculata, St. Joseph Elementary and Heritage Christian school are independent schools that have had exposures in the Kelowna area.

The only other school on the Interior Health page is Vernon's Mission Hill Elementary School.
