More clouds than sunshine expected in Okanagan this long weekend

Unsettled weather conditions are expected to bring showers to the Okanagan over the Victoria Day long weekend.

The forecast for the Victoria Day long weekend should provide some opportunities for outdoor activities in the Okanagan, but rain is expected as Environment Canada predicts unsettled conditions.

Saturday might be the best day to get the garden planted, in time for rain expected Sunday night.

A low pressure system off the British Columbia coast is expected to bring rain to the region Sunday and holiday Monday. Saturday should be mostly pleasant and warm with a high of 23 Celsius.

Environment Canada says the Okanagan should see mainly cloudy skies today, May 14, with a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon and a 40 per cent chance of showers into this evening. Today’s high should reach 21 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, along with a low down to 8 C tonight. Penticton’s high today is expected to reach 20 C with a low to 6 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is forecast for tomorrow in Vernon and Kelowna, along with a 30 per cent chance of showers in afternoon. Penticton should see a mix of sun and cloud tomorrow with a high of 22 C and a low of 9 C.

A mix of sun and cloud is forecast for Saturday with a high of 23 C and a low of 11 C.

Showers are expected on Sunday with a high of 21 C. The showers are expected to continue into Sunday night with a low of 10 C.

Victoria Day Monday looks like it will be wet too, with a 60 per cent chance of showers into Monday night, along with a high of 21 C and a low of 10 C.

The valley should see a return a mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday with a high of 24 C, but showers are expected to return on Wednesday with a high of 21 C.
