Mission Creek Greenway Underpasses Closed

Once again rising spring water levels have forced the closure of two underpasses along the Mission Creek Greenway.

The trails under the Casorso Road Bridge and on the south side of Mission Creek at the Gordon Drive Bridge are closed until further notice.  Flows and water levels have risen sharply due to upper elevation snow melt and the heavy rain experienced last night and early this morning.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan urges Greenway users to respect the barricades and signs posted at these locations along the recreational trail as the underpass will remain closed until waters recede.

Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to use caution and only cross Casorso Road and Gordon Drive when it is safe.  Motorists are also asked to watch for Greenway users who may be crossing the road in this area while the underpasses are closed.

Regional Parks staff is continuing to monitor creek levels along the entire length of the Mission Creek Greenway recreational corridor.  People are reminded that water levels may rise unexpectedly and they, children and pets should stay safely back from creek banks, which may be slippery or subject to erosion from the spring runoff.

Boaters and those using Okanagan Lake boat launches are advised to watch for floating debris that may enter the lake as a result of the runoff.  Please keep wakes down near shore to reduce wave-action erosion.

A reminder that the Lakeshore Road access to the Mission Creek Greenway is closed until November for construction of the Lakeshore Road upgrade.   Trail users must turnaround near the construction site and return toward Gordon Drive.
