A man was in his truck on Westside Road when a landslide pushed him into Okanagan Lake, and three weeks later his body has been recovered.

On April 23, West Kelowna RCMP, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue pulled a the body of a 64-year-old man out of the lake. His body was in very deep water since the slide on April 1.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of this man and will continue to offer any support services they may require,” RCMP said in a media release. Police have not identified the man.

Recovery teams weren’t able to get his pickup truck out of the lake.

RCMP said that they found “unique items” associated with the man on April 7.

A COSAR member told iNFOnews.ca that officials found size 11 boots, a hot tub cover, a cooler, propane canisters and some pieces of what appear to be panels from a pickup truck. He said those items were found the day of the slide and the day after.

RCMP called search and rescue to get its boat out on Okanagan Lake to search for the truck on April 7.

RCMP did not say why the recovery took roughly 18 days, but the landslide brought 20,000 tons of debris onto Westside Road.
