SICAMOUS - A pair of snowmobilers who went missing Sunday evening were found in good condition this morning, police say.

The 25-year-old Calgary man and 27-year-old Rocky View, Alberta, man were reported missing around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Owls Head recreational area in Sicamous, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says.

“The Sicamous RCMP were informed the two men were part of a larger group that had gone into an area south of the Owl Head Chalet around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Members of the group had attempted to locate the pair without success and notified the police,” Moskaluk says in a media release.

Police were told the men had adequate clothing, survival gear, and food.

The Sicamous RCMP immediately activated the Shuswap Search and Rescue on Sunday, and the team deployed at first light on Monday, Jan. 29.

The RCMP Southeast District Air Services helicopter attended the area Monday morning and located both men at approximately 10 a.m., roughly five kilometres south of the Owls Head Snowmobile Chalet.

“The men's snowmobiles were stuck in the deep snow however the men were in good condition,” Moskaluk says.

The Vernon Search and Rescue Winch Rescue Team was called to extract the men from their location.

“This is another example of the need to be properly equipped for unforeseen emergencies while enjoying the backcountry. Snowmobilers are urged to carry the essential gear including a probe, transceiver and shovel along with proper winter survival gear,” Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil says in the release.
