Mini heat wave in Okanagan, Kamloops forecast to end later this week

After a weekend of blistering heat there are a few more hot days ahead, but things should go back to normal in Kamloops and the Okanagan by the end of this week.

The Environment Canada forecast calls for daytime high temperatures around 36 Celsius today, June 9, and approximately 33 C on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Okanagan and Kamloops.

Temperatures should moderate by Thursday and Friday to the mid-20s with a chance of showers in Vernon, Penticton, Kamloops and Kelowna. No major storm systems are expected so Environment Canada said any showers should be intermittent.

Sunday was a record-breaking day for heat around B.C., including in Kamloops. The mercury reached 37 C breaking the previous record high temperature of 35.7 C in 2023.

Lytton saw a high temperature of 39.3 C on Sunday, making it the hottest spot in the country and breaking a daily record also set two years ago.

Kelowna’s hottest June 8 was in 2023 at 35.1 C and Sunday saw a high of 33.5 C.
