Midweek sunshine in store for Okanagan

The clouds Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, are expected to give way to sunny skies by Wednesday with temperatures reaching the 10 Celsius mark by Friday in the Okanagan.

A wet start to this week’s Okanagan weather should give way to some sunny days and above seasonal temperatures later in the week.

Environment Canada says a few morning flurries today, Feb. 24, in Kelowna should change to rain showers near noon. The showers should end later in the afternoon, followed by clearing.

There is a 60 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers in Vernon this morning and early afternoon before clearing.

Cloudy skies with a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers are expected in Penticton before becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon, with south winds to 20 km/h becoming light this morning.

Snow level is expected to rise to 700 metres this afternoon with a high of 3 Celsius and a low of -5 C in Vernon and Kelowna, under partly cloudy skies tonight. Penticton should see a high of 5 C and a low of -4 C tonight.

Tuesday should see a mix of sun and cloud and a high to 3 C in Vernon, 4 C in Kelowna and 6 C in Penticton, with a wind chill to -9 C in the morning. Cloudy periods and a low of -2 C is forecast for Tuesday night.

The sun returns Wednesday with a high of 9, followed by cloudy periods and a low of -1 C Wednesday night.

More sunshine is forecast for Thursday with a high of 10 C and a low to -2 C.

The sun continues into Friday with a high of 10 C and a low down to 0 C.

The weekend looks like it will be mostly cloudy with highs of 8 C both Saturday and Sunday.

Normal temperatures this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 4 C and lows of -4 C.
