The Okanagan valley has been experiencing weather conditions typical for July so far this month, and those conditions are expected to continue this week.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says based on historical averages, the month is trending along a "typical July weather pattern" so far.

“It may not seem that way, based on the dry spell we’ve had, but so far this month, for example, Penticton has received 20 mm or rain so far this month, the average for the month being 29 mm,” Sekhon says.

Sekhon says isolated afternoon showers over the next two days will give way to an upper level cold low that will cool things down considerably Wednesday and Thursday before a high pressure system begins building in time for the weekend.

Today, expect to see mainly cloudy skies with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. A high of 24 Celsius is expected in Kelowna, with winds becoming north at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 this afternoon.

Winds should lighten up this evening, with a low 13 C and a 30 per cent chance of showers continuing into the evening.

It’s expected to reach 23 C in Vernon and 26 C in Penticton today, July 15.

Tuesday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent possibility of showers in the afternoon. Wind should be north at 20 km/h, with a high of 26 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 28 C in Penticton.

Periods of rain are expected Tuesday night with a low of 14 C.

Rain is forecast for Wednesday with a high of 20 C. A 70 per cent chance of showers continues into Wednesday night with a low of 12 C expected.

Thursday the clouds continue along with a 60 per cent chance of showers, along with an expected high of 15 C and a low of 9 C.

Friday should see a sun and cloud mix with a high of 21 C and a low of 12 C.

Things look to be drying out a bit for the weekend with a mix of sun and cloud forecast for Saturday and Sunday, and highs of 26 C and 29 C forecast.

Back east, Ontario is getting a taste of summer weather the valley has yet to experience this July, as the Weather Network says heat warnings are in effect for parts of that province this week with temperatures and humidity expected to rise.

The hot humid weather in Ontario is expected to last into next week.

The province could also see some extremely wet conditions on Wednesday when the remnants of Hurricane Barry moves into the area.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton are normally around 27 C and 12 C for a high and low this time of year.
