Merritt man last seen walking into flood waters located: RCMP

Merritt RCMP say a man last seen walking into flood waters, Nov. 15, 2021, has been located, and he is safe and sound.

The public helped Merritt RCMP locate a man spotted walking into flood waters in the community.

A man wearing a black hoodie and tan jacket was last seen walking down Chapman Street toward Merritt Secondary School into fast-flowing water during the flood at around 4:22 p.m., Nov. 15.

RCMP said at the time he walked behind the high school and was not seen again.

Police now say with help from the public, the man was identified, and he is safe and sound in Kamloops.

"He is patiently waiting for the evacuation order to be lifted to return home,” RCMP Const. Jon Puterbough said in a media release issued today, Nov. 22.

“We want to thank the public for their assistance in identifying him and getting us in contact with the him to ensure he made it out safely.”
