Mental illness was possible cause for bomb threat

Mental illness played a role in last Thursday's bomb threat at the Penticton Health Centre.

About 160 staff members evacuated the area but returned an hour later when it was deemed safe.

RCMP determined the bomb threat was made by an elderly woman who lives at a care facility. The woman was upset an appointment was changed. She told police she made the threat in anger.

Sgt. Rick Dellebuur said he doubts charges will be laid. Care facility staff were told about the incident and co-operated with police.

Dellebuur said before charges could be laid they have to determine if the possible accused person knows the extent of what they are doing.
