VANCOUVER - A North Vancouver man who admitted bludgeoning his father to death with a blunt object has been found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.
A B.C. Supreme Court judge says Jordan Ramsay did not know as an 18-year-old that the violence that killed his father and nearly ended his mother's life was wrong.
Judge Deborah Kloegman said Ramsay had a history of mental illness, was not taking his medications and was suffering extreme anxiety when he killed his father on Nov. 5, 2011.
Ramsay was rushed to hospital early that morning and was diagnosed with schizophrenia after telling doctors he believed he was possessed by demons.
In her ruling, Kloegman gave weight to the expert advice of a psychiatrist who prepared a 37-page report, charting the teen's mental history back 12 years.
Ramsay's case will be referred to a three-member panel of the B.C. Review Board.
