VERNON - They didn’t pull it off, but they’ll still do the jail time.

A pair of men were sentenced Aug. 9 in Vernon Provincial Court for their participation in an attempted grow-rip in the North Okanagan three years ago.

Tyler Alexander Macleod, 27, was given a year in jail while Damjan Madjar, 29, was sentenced to 363 days, according to the Vernon court registry. They will also be on probation for a year.

Macleod and Madjar were part of a group of people who tried to rob a licensed marijuana grow-op on Yankee Flats Road on Nov. 26, 2013.

Court heard during a May 30 sentence hearing how the caretaker of the property was woken up by the facility’s alarm system around 2:30 a.m. and watched via a live video surveillance feed as four masked men approached the building with a long barrelled firearm. The caretaker retreated to a safe room and called 911.

Despite their efforts, the intruders were not able to get inside the building, which had a heavy-duty metal security barricade. They fled when the caretaker activated an outdoor alarm but were caught by police some distance away.

Madjar and Macleod pleaded guilty to charges of using a firearm during an offence and breaking and entering in relation to the incident.

Both men also have to pay $400 victim fine surcharge fees and were given civil forfeiture orders.
