A massive amount of smoke and flames have been seen in the Kamloops North Shore area.

At roughly 5:35 p.m. Thursday, April 8, Kamloops resident Eric Rankin said he was watching TV, when he saw a huge flame leap up into the sky followed by a massive cloud of smoke.

Area residents are reporting a fire on Linden Avenue on the North Shore.

Amanda Mansell, who lives in the area, said emergency crews are on scene at a house fire.

She said she heard four loud bangs and it shook her house. There is smoke billowing out of a neighbour's backyard, she said.

Kamloops resident Tyler Carpentier said he drove by the scene and saw the rafters of a structure engulfed in flames.

"There was a huge plume of black smoke and traffic slowed down quite a bit," he said.

Kamloops Fire Rescue is asking residents to avoid the area. A video posted by the fire service shows a shed on fire.
