Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (16,426.47, up 24.72 points).

Avalon Advanced Materials Inc. (TSX:AVL). Materials. Up five cents, or 111.1 per cent, to 9.5 cents on 9.9 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financials. Up 55 cents, or 2.37 per cent, to $23.80 on 8.9 million shares.

Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB). Energy. Down 12 cents, or 0.24 per cent, to $50.38 on 7.1 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Industrials. Up eight cents, or 3.79 per cent, to $2.19 on 6.9 million shares.

Prometic Life Sciences Inc. Health care. Unchanged at 4.5 cents on 6.6 million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Materials. Down 85 cents, or 7.17 per cent, to $11 on 6.1 million shares.

Companies reporting:

Norbord Inc. (TSX:OSB). Down 63 cents or 2.1 per cent to $29.58. Norbord Inc. says it has temporarily suspended production as an oriented strand board mill in northern Alberta due to wildfires in the region. The company says it stopped production at the mill in High Level, Alta., to comply with evacuation orders in the town. All non-essential mill employees have left and the mill was secure at the time of evacuation, Norbord says. The High Level mill has an annual production capacity of 860 million square feet and has been ramping up toward full production since resuming operations in late 2013.

Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI.B). Up $1.20 or 1.75 per cent to $69.95. Rogers Communications says it will launch a new wireless service that's optimized for connecting stationary sensors and similar data-collection devices to the internet. The Toronto-based company says the service will be best used for asset monitoring, industrial automation, utility meters and smart cities. It adds that the technology is complementary to its current national networks using fourth-generation wireless standards and it will prepare Rogers for the arrival of 5G capabilities. Rogers says its newest wireless service will be rolled out in Ontario and spread to other parts of Canada next year.

Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. (TSX:FFH). Up 24 cents to $611.45. Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. says chief financial David Bonham died suddenly during the weekend. Fairfax chief executive Prem Watsa says the entire Fairfax family mourns the sudden and unexpected loss. John Varnell, Fairfax's vice-president, corporate development, has been appointed to serve as chief financial officer on an interim basis. Varnell previously served as the chief financial officer of Fairfax on two occasions, as well as the chief financial officer of Northbridge Financial Corp. and Fairfax India Holdings Corp. Fairfax is a holding company with subsidiaries in property and casualty insurance and reinsurance.

Premium Brands Holdings Corp. (TSX:PBH). Up $6.72 or 8.6 per cent to $84.80. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board has signed a deal to invest roughly $200 million in specialty food company Premium Brands Holdings Corp. Premium Brands intends to use the cash to repay debt, finance organic and acquisition growth opportunities and for general corporate purposes. Under the agreement, CPPIB will pay $76.02 per share for 2,631,000 shares in the company. The shares represent approximately a 7.1 per cent stake in Premium Brands. Concurrent with the deal, Premium Brands said it has also signed agreements with certain shareholders to raise an additional $60 million through the sale a total of 788,000 shares at $76.02 per share.
