Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (16,511.79, up 8.44 points).

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Energy. Down 13 cents, or 1.98 per cent, to $6.42 on 6.2 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Industrials. Down seven cents, or 3.1 per cent, to $2.19 on 6.2 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Materials. Down two cents, or 0.1 per cent, to $19.24 on six million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Energy. Down five cents, or 2.39 per cent, to $2.04 on 5.4 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financials. Down three cents, or 0.13 per cent, to $23.70 on five million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Materials. Up two cents, or 0.41 per cent, to $4.85 on 4.2 million shares.

Companies in the news:

Shopify Inc. (TSX:SHOP). Technology. Up $27.76, or 6.82 per cent, to $434.95 on 405,000 shares. The company announced it had launched a network of fulfilment centres in the United States to expand its suite of offerings for merchants in the competitive world of online retail. The network will allow merchants large and small to gain access to advanced logistics technology and simplified warehousing and shipping, chief product officer Craig Miller said.

CannTrust Holdings Inc. (TSX:TRST). Health care. Up 45 cents, or 6.77 per cent, to $7.10 on 2.7 million shares. The company said it plans to enter the U.S. market, starting with a hemp production joint-venture in California. The Vaughan, Ont.-based licensed cannabis producer has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Elk Grove Farming Company to secure hemp with high cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis and hemp.
