March arriving like a lamb in the Okanagan

A gentle start to the month of March is anticipated in the Okanagan with possible showers today, but a fair amount of sun and seasonable temperatures for the remainder of the week.

March is arriving in the Okanagan more like a lamb than a lion with no major storm systems in the forecast for the first week of the month.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a front passing over the region will bring showers to the Okanagan today, March 2, with rain a possibility on Friday or Saturday.

“It should be an up and down week with temperatures near to, or above, normal averages,” he says.

A few showers beginning this afternoon should end late this evening, accompanied by cloudy skies and a high of 9 C today.

The showers or flurries later this evening are expected to give way to partly cloudy conditions and a low of 1 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 5 C in Penticton.

Tuesday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 9 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and 11 C in Penticton.

Tuesday night there is a 30 per cent chance of showers along with cloudy periods and a low of 0 C.

Midweek weather in the Okanagan is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures of 6 C on Wednesday and 9 C on Thursday.

Both nights are expected to be mostly cloudy with lows of -4 C and 1 C respectively.

Friday should see a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 per cent chance of showers along with a high of 9 C. The possibility of showers decreases to 30 per cent Friday night with a low dipping to -1 C.

It looks like there will be a mix of sun and cloud this weekend with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 6 C on Saturday, and a high of 8 C on Sunday.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 6 C and lows of -3 C.
