KAMLOOPS – His first mistake was driving through a Kamloops RCMP Counter Attack road stop early this morning.
His second mistake was admitting to the officer peering into his car that he didn’t have a driver’s licence.
RCMP say they have taken a criminal with a very lengthy criminal record off the streets after he was caught at a Counter Attack road block in the 200 block of Victoria Street West at around 12:42 a.m. today, Dec. 24.
A man drove up to the roadside check and told the officer he didn’t have a driver’s licence, according to an RCMP media release. Police ran a check and found out he was actually prohibited from driving.
While the officer was slapping on the cuffs, he notice a small bag of a powdery substance on the floor of the vehicle. That sparked a search and police found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun — which was stolen — more drugs and some cash.
RCMP say the 32-year-old man is known to police although he isn’t from the Kamloops area. Police didn’t say where is from.
The suspect remains in custody and is facing a number of charges including possession of a loaded, restricted firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition, possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, along with drug-related charges.
His car was also impounded for seven days.
