Man who jumped from Kamloops bridge presumed drowned: RCMP

Kamloops RCMP say a 23-year-old man is presumed to have drowned in the Thompson River after jumping from the Overlanders Bridge Wednesday evening.

RCMP, Kelowna Fire Rescue and Kamloops Search and Rescue were called to scour the water when witnesses saw the man jump from Overlanders Bridge, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

"Witnesses reported seeing the male surface briefly before disappearing, and attempts to rescue the male were unsuccessful," reads the release.

Search and rescue volunteers continued the search Thursday.

The man's identity has not been made public.
