Man wanted in Kamloops caught in Alberta after revealing his location in Facebook comment

KAMLOOPS - A man who was wanted by Kamloops RCMP for charges from 2015 has been transported back to the city after revealing his current location to a local news organization.

Kamloops RCMP say Jessie Dean Kowalchuk was back in court today, May 14, to face charges from three separate files from several years ago. Last winter, RCMP released Kowalchuk’s photo as part of the weekly Most Wanted segment.

Kowalchuk saw his photo on CFJC Today’s website and sent a message to their Facebook page. Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release the tone of Kowalchuk’s message was derogatory. He said the RCMP had “missed the ball” because he had been living in Edmonton for three years.

CFJC passed this information to police and three of Kowalchuk's outstanding B.C. warrants were extended to Alberta. On May 10, Kowalchuk was arrested by police in Edmonton and he transported back to Kamloops to face the music.

“We are very pleased that Jessie Kowalchuk sent the message advising he was living in Alberta,” Shelkie says. “It’s important that people who are wanted realize they can’t relocate to avoid their legal issues. Sooner or later, the police will find them. In this case, the suspect aided us by giving his current location.”
