Man walks to hospital after alleged Vernon assault

A 24-year-old man is being treated at Vernon Jubilee Hospital following an alleged assault that occurred early Saturday morning.

Just after 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 15, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were advised a man had walked into the hospital with injuries consistent with an assault.

Police arrived on scene and located blood near the entrance of the hospital, however, they learned the incident had taken place at another location,  RCMP said in a news release.

"The man was bleeding as he walked to the hospital," said Cpl Tania Finn, Vernon RCMP media relations officer, in a news release.

"Our police dog section was utilized to conduct a track from the hospital to the scene where the incident occurred."

The investigation is in the early stages as police interview witnesses.

"The victim is not co-operating with the investigation; however, police believe this is an isolated incident," the release said.

Brad Buie, with the communications department at Interior Health, also confirmed the violent incident did not take place at the hospital.
