LAVINGTON - An Okanagan man was killed Sunday afternoon after getting hit by a train.
Police say in a media release the 25-year-old Penticton man was seen walking on the tracks in Lavington moments before the collision at Hill Road and Highway 6.
Vernon RCMP Cpl. Yannick Lescarbeau says in the release the train was moving slowly and early investigation reveals the man may have been intoxicated.
Police responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. on June 17, along with CN Rail police and the Lavington Fire Department.
The fatality has prompted a warning from police to stay off train tracks.
“Walking on tracks where trains operate is not only illegal but it has the potential for serious risks of injury or death,” Lescarbeau says.
