KAMLOOPS - A Kamloops man who died after losing control of the SUV he was driving has been identified.

Justin David Conrad Brewster, 30, was driving an SUV northbound on Schubert Drive when he lost control near Moose Park around 2:45 a.m., April 9, the B.C. Coroners Service says in a release. The vehicle left the road and struck two large trees.

RCMP said the Jaws of Life were needed to get two men out of the mangled 1992 Ford Explorer. Brewster was deceased at the scene and his 25-year-old passenger from Surrey was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in stable condition.

The coroners service and RCMP continue to investigate. RCMP previously said speed may have been a factor.
