Man killed in Kamloops dog attack

A man is dead after he was attacked by a dog in a Kamloops residence today.

Kamloops officers responded to a call about a dog attack at a home in the 900 block of Singh Street at around 11:45 a.m. today, June 29, according to an RCMP media release.

"People in the house state that a pit bull owned by a resident attacked a man who was visiting," Kamloops media relations officer Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. "Subsequently, the man died of his injuries."

RCMP say as of 2 p.m., the dog is secured on the deck of the house. Conservation officers are on scene and will sedate the dog and then euthanize it.

The B.C. Coroners Service has been notified and will be investigating the death.

The victim's identity will not be released, police say.
