A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital today after he was shot at a Penticton townhouse complex.

Penticton RCMP and B.C. Ambulance responded to the shooting around 8:20 a.m. today, April 18, where they found the man inside a home, according to an RCMP news release.

He was taken to hospital, but police haven't said how serious his injuries are.

Police believe the shooting was targeted, but do not have a description of any suspects or a vehicle they may have left in, RCMP said.

A nearby school was placed on hold and secure while Penticton RCMP responded to the scene this morning. RCMP don't identify the school.

Police say there's no risk to the public, but they'll still be in the area of the Maple Street townhouse complex throughout the day.

"Officers will remain on scene to allow time for further investigation," RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release.
