SALMON ARM - Police in Salmon Arm say a man has died after being hit by a train near Salmon Arm earlier this week.

Around 2:30 p.m. July 25, police, the B.C. Coroners Service and CP police responded to a train that hit a pedestrian on the tracks in a wooded area, about one kilometre west of the Canoe Beach boat launch near Salmon Arm.

A preliminary investigation by police has confirmed the man was hit by the train while on foot. He died at the scene as a result, Southeast District RCMP say in a news release.

The death is not suspicious and police are aiding the B.C. Coroners Service and CP Rail in their respective investigations, according to the release.

The man's identity has not been released.
