Man detained, subsequently released in suspected Vernon drug lab investigation

FILE PHOTO

VERNON - Police and health officials continue to investigate a suspected drug lab found in Vernon.

Investigators have been at the property in the 8000 block of Silver Star Road since last Friday, March 31 dismantling the suspected drug lab and collecting evidence.

Police have not said what kind of drugs are suspected of being produced there.

In a news release issued this afternoon, April 5, police confirm one man was initially detained and subsequently released pending further investigation.

“We anticipate that RCMP and Health Canada investigators will have completed the dismantling and examination of the scene today or by Thursday,” South East District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the release.

Determining the purpose of the lab will take several weeks, during which time an analysis of the materials found will be conducted, Moskaluk says.

No further information is expected until a full analysis of the evidence is complete, he says.

The authorities currently involved in the file are the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP, the RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) and Health Canada.
