KELOWNA - A man slammed the compact car he was driving into a town bus during an attempt to flee police this morning.
Police responded to a call that someone was attempting to enter a home in the 800 block of Tamarack Drive shortly before 11 a.m. A 46-year-old Kelowna man who is well known to police was apparently uttering threats towards the occupant as he tried to get inside the residence. The man fled the scene in a silver Honda CRX toward Springfield Road, and Mounties later located the car in the Orchard Park Mall parking lot but the suspect managed to evade police.
Eventually, plainclothes officers in an unmarked police car closed in on the man, who they say was driving in a dangerous manner just prior to crashing into a city transit bus on Sutherland Avenue near Chandler Street. The man then fled on foot, but was soon apprehended by police. The investigation is ongoing.
The suspect faces several potential charges including attempted break and enter, uttering threats, flight from police and dangerous driving. He is expected to appear to appear in court August 2.
