KAMLOOPS - A local man charged with murder in connection to the death of a man on the North Shore in Kamloops last year will stand trial in Supreme Court.
Eric Bradley Charlie, a man with several different aliases, is charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 30-year-old John Southwell. The alleged incident happened on Jan. 22, 2016 outside of the Hatsuki Sushi restaurant on Tranquille Road.
According to court documents, Charlie appeared in Kamloops Provincial Court this week for a preliminary inquiry. The two-day hearing wrapped up yesterday, March 7, and resulted in a judge ordering Charlie to stand trial in Kamloops Supreme Court.
A date has not yet been set for trial.
Kamloops RCMP has previously said an argument had broken out between Charlie and Southwell, resulting in an altercation outside the restaurant.
Shortly before the alleged incident, Charlie was sentenced for contempt of court after providing an alias to police. His defence lawyer had argued in court that more jail time wouldn't be beneficial to his client and instead opted for a rehabilitation plan, which a Provincial Court judge agreed with.
