Man charged with making bomb threat against Kamloops high school denied bail

KAMLOOPS - An 18-year-old man who was charged after allegedly making a threat against a Kamloops high school last week was denied bail and will remain behind bars.

Colby Joseph Adamson was arrested by Kamloops RCMP on Friday, Sept. 20 after Sa-Hali Secondary School received a bomb threat.

Adamson appeared in Kamloops court yesterday, Sept. 26, with his lawyer, Jeanine Ball. He faces one count of uttering threats to burn, destroy or damage property and one count of mischief, according to online court documents. He was released earlier this week but was brought back into custody after breaching his conditions.

He faces another charge of breach of undertaking or recognizance. He was charged on Sept. 23 for allegedly being out past his curfew and carrying a knife.

Details of the bail hearing, including reasons for detention are under a publication ban and cannot be made public.

A judge can deny bail for several reasons including, if there is a chance an accused will not show up for their next court date and if they are likely to commit further crimes.

Judges can also deny bail if they believe granting would cause people to lose faith in the justice system. It's generally unusual for bail to be denied.

Classes were disrupted at Sa-Hali Secondary School on Friday after the school received a bomb threat according to a previous RCMP media release. Classes resumed back to normal in the afternoon but all weekend activities were cancelled as police investigated.

Two days prior, police were called to the same school after the building had been tagged with graffiti stating there was a bomb at the school. It took police nearly six hours to deem the school safe again.

Police determined both threats were unfounded.
