A Merritt man has been charged in relation to an incident on July 30 where three 12-year-old girls were allegedly held against their wills at an elementary school.
The Merritt RCMP were called to the incident at the Diamondvale Elementary School grounds yesterday shortly after 9 p.m, after receiving reports of an attempted abduction.
"Three twelve-year-old girls were reported to have been assaulted and held against their wills by a man," said Cpl. Brock Hedrick, with the Merritt RCMP, in a news release.
A 37-year-old male was arrested and a taser and knife were seized by police at the scene, according to the news release. The man was held in police custody overnight to await a court appearance July 31.
Jamie Leighton Atwater has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, two courts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.
