Man brings bag of suspected explosives to Barriere RCMP detachment

BARRIERE - If you find a bag full of possible explosives just lying around, it's not a good idea to bring them to the local RCMP detachment.

That advice would seem common-sense, but the Barriere RCMP are reminding people to leave explosives alone after a man dropped off a bag filled with suspected crater-makers yesterday, June 6.

A man found a bag of what he believed were oilfield, worksite explosives in a ditch outside of Barriere, according to an RCMP media release. He decided to drop them off at the Barriere detachment at around 10 a.m.

The building was evacuated, which disrupted front counter services for six hours, although police could still respond to emergency calls.

Police say a thorough examination of the bag revealed it was was actually filled with old flares. The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was called in and did its job by getting rid of them.
