Man assaulted, robbed at Kamloops motel after arranging 'services' online

A man soliciting "services" from a Kamloops motel was assaulted and robbed this weekend.

Kamloops RCMP were called to a motel room in the 500 block of Columbia Street West around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.

The victim allegedly "arranged and encounter" with someone online. Instead, he was met with two men who assaulted him with a weapon and took his wallet and phone, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

Police didn't say what kind of weapon he was assaulted with. Despite the innuendo, police also didn't say what kind of services the man was looking for.

“The fact that this online interaction in of itself had a criminal nature, further increased the risk to the robbery victim and makes these types of offences very serious in nature,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the news release.

RCMP remind victims to contact police and report crimes "no matter the circumstances."

“This was a dangerous scenario that could have ended much worse, which is why we are reminding the public to be wary of what services they are purchasing online and the risks attached," Cpl. Evelyn said.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation can contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference 2023-3442.
