MERRITT - RCMP arrested a man with multiple guns last week after an accident on Highway 5.
Around 7:50 a.m. Thursday, July 21, Merritt RCMP received calls about an erratic driver on Highway 5 south of Merritt, according to a police press release. After a collision between a Toyota Camry and transport truck, a witness detained the erratic driver as he tried to flee the scene on foot.
Police arrived, arrested the erratic driver and searched his vehicle. Inside they found six firearms: two hand guns and four long barrel guns. One of the hand guns was a semi-automatic 9 mm loaded with 15 rounds.
The 44 year-old-man was already known to police. At the time of the press release he was being held in custody and could be facing multiple firearms charges and driving offences.
Police are looking for witnesses to the incident. Tips can be called in to the Merritt RCMP 250-378-4262.
