A 38-year-old man is in custody facing a mischief charge after a spree of window smashing in Kamloops early this morning.
Kamloops Mounties received a report about a broken window and alarm at a pharmacy in the 700-block McGill Road in the lower Sahali neighbourhood just after 1 a.m. today, Nov. 17, according to an RCMP media release. When officers arrived they found the window broken, but no signs of entry.
A few minutes later RCMP received another broken window and alarm from a business on the same block.
While officers were searching for the suspect they noticed a third broken window.
“Throughout the rest of the morning we continued to receive reports of business windows and doors being smashed, and two vehicle windows being damaged near the Sahali Shopping District,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release.
The glass smashing spree ended with 11 windows broken. The suspect led police on a five-hour chase that ended with his capture on Summit Drive with help from a witness and a police dog.
The suspect is in custody and is set to appear in court later today.
Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone who was a witness or has video surveillance to contact police at 250-828-3600 and cite file 2023-40889.
