A man in Kamloops has been arrested after he allegedly attacked a cyclist with a rock.

According to a Kamloops RCMP media release, the attack happened when the cyclist was riding under Halston Bridge at Schubert Drive in the early afternoon May 29.

Police were in the area conducting a wellness check when they saw the female cyclist get struck in the head with what appeared to be a rock. The cyclist was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Police immediately identified and arrested a suspect under the bridge deck for assault with a weapon," Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. "He was lodged in cells as officers conducted their initial investigation, and later released with a court date and conditions."

Kamloops RCMP says the unnamed man will likely be charged and ask anyone who witnessed the event Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-18872.
