KAMLOOPS - A standoff on Royal Avenue in Kamloops has ended after police arrested a man who allegedly barricaded himself inside of a home.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that officers received information last night, Aug. 22, that a person was being confined to a house in the 400 block of Royal Avenue. Police quickly contained the area and neighbours were evacuated as a precaution.
Shelkie says officers were able to call out several occupants of the home including the person who was allegedly being held against their will, however one man remained inside the home.
The Southeast District's Emergency Response Team attended the residence and shortly after 11 p.m. the man inside was taken into custody. Police say he's a 25-year-old Kamloops man who was previously known to police.
The house is currently being secured pending further investigation, Shelkie says. All information will be forwarded to the Crown counsel who will determine if charges are appropriate.
