SALMON ARM - A small plane has crashed short of the runway at the airport in Salmon Arm today injuring the two Albertans on board.
Salmon Arm fire chief Brad Shirley says the plane sustained significant damage in the crash on today, Aug. 27.
Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West says in a media release the owner and pilot of the plane, a 71-year-old man from Alberta and his 73-year-old wife were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of them was transported by air ambulance.
"The plane, a single engine Cessna, was on final approach the pilot reported the engine stopped," West says in the rel As a result of the lack of power the plane crash-landed at the north end of the runway just short of the asphalt."
Shirley says there was no fire after the crash and the plane may have run out of fuel, although that was unconfirmed.
He says the potential cause will be determined as part of an investigation.
