A suspect is in custody after two people in their 60s were allegedly assaulted in Victoria earlier this week,

Police responded to a disturbance after 7 p.m. on July 26, according to a release from the Victoria Police Department.

It was determined that a 67-year-old woman was struck in the face and a 66-year-old man was pushed to the ground after they approached a man who was setting grass on fire in front of an apartment building.

The suspect tried to strike a third person. He fled the scene but officers were able to arrest him a short distance away.

“The woman suffered potentially life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital,” the release says. “The suspect faces aggravated assault and assault charges and was held in custody to appear in court.”
