Wear your Bond best and party for a cause this November
Casino tables, prizes for best outfit, glamorous decor, a champagne reception, a DJ and dance floor, and amazing auction items will all be found at the Laurel Packinghouse on Saturday, November 26 as part of the Mamas for Mamas Casino Royale Gala, presented by Doak Shirreff Lawyers LLP. Rumour also has it that a well-known ‘celebrity mama’ may also be in attendance, pending her filming schedule.
“Our team has been working very hard to ensure that this is a fabulous event that leaves people buzzing long after it’s over,” said Shannon Christensen, founder of Mamas for Mamas. “The gala is going to be spectacular and our community partners are donating great items, including more than 25 auction items, a Lake City Casino Prize Package and a $500 gift card from Orchard Park Shopping Centre that will go to the person with the most chips at the end of the night.”
Founded in 2014, Mamas for Mamas is a not-for-profit organization that has grown significantly over the past two years. They have helped thousands of mamas and have received countless honours for their community work, including being named a finalist in the Social Entrepreneurship category for the 2016 Kelowna Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. The organization is entirely volunteer-run, enabling them to put every dollar raised back into programs and support for struggling mothers and their children. In addition to their incredible work in reducing poverty, the organization also hosts a closed Facebook group with more than 8,400 members who share parenting advice, support for daily struggles, and offer trades and free items to other mothers in need.
“We can’t thank the community enough for all of their support, but we also need to recognize our incredible volunteers. It’s through their hard work that we are able to ensure that every penny raised goes directly back to the Mamas who need it most,” explained Christensen. “That means that this fundraiser is going to make a really huge impact throughout the year and we encourage our guests to come out and bid generously on our silent and live auction items, and to buy up extra chips for the gaming tables!”
The evening runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and includes include a glass of sparkling wine from Summerhill Pyramid Winery, $25 in gaming chips for the tables, appetizers from MTL, a cash bar and much more. The black-tie fundraising event is already 50 percent sold as people look to ‘party for a cause’ and help break the cycle of poverty for local mothers. Remaining tickets are $75 each and can be purchased online at Eventbrite.ca and in person at KelownaNow, located at 1685 Pandosy St.
About Mamas for Mamas
Mamas for Mamas is a registered non-profit organization that supports mothers in crisis, and provides ongoing support to low income mothers in overcoming the negative impact of poverty and marginalization. With 2 levels of membership, Mamas for Mamas supports mothers of all socioeconomic backgrounds in joining the movement. Our online social media platform allows all Mamas to join a common community in order to donate and share with one another, providing a safe platform where we can share gently used or new items and services to allow mothers to access items for their kids without the financial barrier. The second level of membership focuses entirely on relieving poverty and all donations made to the organization will be used directly for poverty relief programs and we require Mamas to do an intake at the office to determine how we can best help provide support.
