Both directions of Highway 5 were delayed this morning due to multiple vehicle incidents between Hope and Merritt but appears to have been cleared up this morning.
The latest update from Drive B.C. at 6:46 a.m says a major incident on the Hope to Merritt section was cleared and shows no other incidents.
Parts of the highway got up to 10 cms of snow last night with more to come today and DriveB.C. is reporting compact snow, slushy and slippery sections and low visibility on sections of the road. Alternate routes are recommended through Highways 1 or 3 or expect major delays of up to an hour.
Environment Canada has extended its special weather statement for many mountain passes in B.C. including the Hope to Merritt and and Merritt to Kamloops sections of the Coquihalla as well as the Coquihalla Connector and the Trans Canada Highway from Rogers Pass to Eagle Pass.
The snow is expected to taper off today although 5 to 10 cms of snow has already fallen in parts. More may be due in other parts today as a cold front comes in the from the north. Strong winds may follow.
