The body of an unknown person was found in a rural area of Merritt on Tuesday, and RCMP are treating the death as suspicious.
Around 8 a.m. on Sept. 14, Merritt RCMP were called to the Nicola Lake area where the body was discovered and later called in the Southeast District Major Crime Unit to take the lead on the investigation, according to an RCMP press release.
"Our priority at this time is to identify the dead person and notify their next of kin," RCMP Staff Sgt. Steph Drouin said in the release.

Merritt RCMP and an RCMP forensic team are assisting the investigation.
