Madison Scott's family was notified her body was found west of Prince George 12 years to the day of her disappearance.

The discovery on a rural Vanderhoof property leaves the Scotts "motivated" to find answers to the many questions they have about her disappearance, according to a family statement released by BC RCMP.

"The emotions that we have experienced since Sunday cannot be summarized. However, we are once again astonished at the outpour of support that we have received from family, friends and our communities," the Scott family said in the release.

Madison Scott was reported missing by a family member on May 28, 2011. The 20-year-old woman was last seen in the early morning of that day at a friend's party at Hogsback Lake near Vanderhoof.

RCMP said in a May 29 news release her remains were found on a property on the east side of Vanderhoof, 100 km west of Prince George.

The family was notified a day earlier, exactly 12 years since she was reported missing.

"As a family, we now have the opportunity to allow Maddy to rest although nothing has yet been planned," her family said in the statement. "We trust that with patience, persistence and belief that we will receive answers, and remain motivated to achieve closure."

RCMP officers were on the scene of the rural property to execute a search warrant when they found Scott's remains. Police said her remains were found while searching the property. RCMP didn't say exactly when or where her remains were found.

Scott's family asked for privacy, but urged anyone with information to contact the RCMP tip line at 778-290-5291.
