MEXICO CITY - Mexican authorities have seized two packages mailed by post of the synthetic opioid fentanyl.
Federal police Monday found nearly 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of fentanyl in the packages sent by regular mail through the Mexico City airport.
The shipments bore addresses in the Sinaloa state capital of Culiacan and the Mexico state city of Ecatepec.
The discovery of fentanyl processing facilities in those places suggests the shipments were meant to be diluted and pressed into pills.
Three days earlier, Mexican soldiers found about one-third of a kilogram of fentanyl pills in an express-mail shipment at an airport in the north-central city of Queretaro.
Those pills were sent from Culiacan to a city on the U.S. border.
