KELOWNA – A Kelowna mixed martial artist has been added to the card of the first UFC event to visit B.C. in two years.
Shane ‘Shaolin’ Campbell made the announcement on Facebook.
“I love putting on for my home country most and I couldn't be happier to do it in Vancouver,” he writes. “I am taking on Felipe Silva from Brazil, a Muay Thai guy.”
This will be Silva's first UFC appearance. He has a professional record of 7 wins and no losses.
"I'm not one to look too closely at the guys I leave that to my coaches," he says. "I just fight in my own way. Even I don't know what I’m going to throw."
Campbell, a 6’ lightweight with a record of 12 wins and five losses, is best known for throwing a video game move called a ‘Hadouken’ at Derek Boyle before finishing him off. The YouTube video has been viewed more than a million times.
Campbell is one of four members of Kelowna's Toshido MMA to be signed by the biggest promotion in the world.
He takes on Silva Saturday, Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
