KAMLOOPS – Enhanced security, including locked doors and a security guard, was put in place at a Brocklehurst ministry office recently but officials are staying tight-lipped as to what led to it.
The Ministry of Children and Families office on Southill Street had 'enhanced security' for an undisclosed period.
“Based on information received by the office, a decision was made to temporarily enhance security,” spokesperson Karen Johnston wrote in a statement to Infonews.ca this week. “This was done out of an abundance of caution in order to better manage and monitor access to the office while ensuring the safety of clients and staff.”
Johnston said regular office hours at the Kamloops location were still ongoing with increased security and from her understanding the guard on duty would screen and open the door for clients. Johnston said doors were recently unlocked at the location but would not comment further on the length of the heightened security or if the RCMP was involved.
Calls to the Kamloops RCMP have not been returned. Additional information requested from the ministry was not returned by press time.
-This story was corrected at 10:15 a.m. February 18 to correct the office location from Battle Street to Southill Street.
