Little gained, but thieves continue to target laundry room coin boxes in Penticton

April 11, 2017 - 9:00 PM

PENTICTON - Penticton apartment laundry rooms continue to be plagued by coin box break-ins.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says officers responded to a report of laundry coin box theft at 110 Skaha Pl. on April 7.

The building was entered and the coin boxes for one dryer and two washers were damaged, he says. The coin boxes are emptied nightly, so very little was gained for the amount of damage done.

On April 9 another laundry coin box theft was reported, in progress, from an apartment building on South Main Street.

The suspect fled by the time police arrived. He is described as having greasy spiked hair, lots of facial acne, wearing a navy blue hoodie, black track pants with yellow and white stripes down the legs. He was carrying a Dakine dark coloured, camouflage back pack.

The description is similar to one reported to police from a previous attempted laundry room theft on Feb. 6.

A laundry room on Dynes Avenue was also broken into April 9. Machines were damaged and paint was thrown around in the incident.
