It was an electrifying once-in-a-lifetime moment that was captured on camera earlier this week during an Osoyoos couple’s engagement shoot.

Kelowna photographer Danika Camba accompanied couple Alisa Hemming and Liam Duncan to capture their proposal in the city. It was meant to be a surprise for Hemming, as Duncan told her he booked a couple’s photography session.

At the end of the trail in the Magic Estates neighbourhood, friends and family were waiting for him to pop the question, Aug. 22.

Camba said it didn’t start off as a stormy day but the weather began to turn as Duncan got down on one knee and asked Hemming to marry him.

“She pulled him in for a hug and says ‘yes’ and that literal moment she says 'yes,' the strike of lightning hits. I’ve never seen something hit so close and I knew it was close because the thunder happened at the same time as the strike,” she said.

“I thought ‘holy crap’ I must have captured that moment,” she said. Sure enough, there were three images that captured the lightning strike as the couple embraced.

They quickly left the scene as the storm continued.

“It was pretty surreal,” Camba said. “The fact that it struck right when she said ‘yes,’ you can’t make this stuff up.”

The photo has been well received online and received almost 1,000 likes on Camba’s Instagram page.
