KELOWNA – You learn more from losses than from wins.

That’s the thought behind an upcoming series of talks featuring successful people sharing their biggest failures in business.

Fuckup Nights began with a group of businessmen in Mexico City, according to event spokesperson Leslie Thomson.

“A group of entrepreneurs were sitting around talking about wins and successes,” she says. “They realized that it was more therapeutic to share failures, things they were maybe hiding.”

It has since spread around the world, including chapters in Victoria and Toronto, and next month the Kelowna Innovation Centre is bringing it to the Okanagan.

Thomson says they plan to do four talks each year with three or four speakers each night. Speakers so far include successful entrepreneurs from a range of sectors.

“It’s better to learn from someone else’s mistakes,” she says. “We’re trying to help people see these failures, or fuckups, as something that’s inevitable and even helpful.”

Each talk will be followed by a chance to ask questions.

The first Fuckup Nights Kelowna takes place April 29. Tickets are available here.
