Kamloops and the Okanagan are among the many regions in B.C. under a smoky skies bulletin.

The South Thompson, Nicola, Shuswap, Okanagan and Similkameen regions are expected to be impacted by wildfire smoke for the next 24 to 48 hours, according to a smoky skies bulletin issued by the Ministry of Environment in conjunction with Environment Canada and Interior Health today, Oct. 18.

The South Thompson region includes Kamloops, Rayleigh, Monte Creek, Cache Creek, Spences Bridge and Logan Lake. The Nicola includes Merritt, Strump Lake, Pennask Lake, and Brookmere. The Shuswap includes Salmon Arm, Sicamous and Chase. The North Okanagan includes Vernon, Armstrong, Enderby, Lavington and Lumby. The Central Okanagan includes Kelowna, Lake Country, West Kelowna and Peachland. The South Okanagan includes Penticton, Summerland, Naramata, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos, and the Similkameen includes Princeton.

The smoke is widespread throughout B.C, the bulletin says, with Prince George, coastal communities and parts of the Kootenays are also included.

People with pre-existing health conditions are more susceptible to the effects of smoke exposure, according to the bulletin, which has advice here for reducing exposure and monitoring symptoms.
